Update The scuttling did not take place on 27 March 2010, due to a court injunction on 24 March.
The court will meet again shortly to decide if the scuttling will go ahead or not.
The Ex-HMAS ADELAIDE was to be scuttled on 27/3/2010 off the coast of Terrigal to create an artificial reef and dive wreck approximately 1.8km from the shoreline. If the scuttling does go ahead the best viewing on the day will between North Avoca and Avoca Beach.
The Central Coast is already one of the world’s great dive spots, and this will be a tremendous addition to the Central Coast’s attractions.
It is the first military dive site in NSW and one of six in Australia, It will be closest to shore.
The ex-HMAS Adelaide was a long-range escort frigate with roles including area air defence, anti-submarine warfare, surveillance, reconnaissance, and interdiction. Built in the United States, HMAS Adelaide was commissioned in November 1980 and was the first of six Adelaide class guided-missile frigates to be delivered to the Royal Australian Navy.
